Electrical Safety Authority

The primary responsibility of the Electrical Safety Authority relates to safety and inspections of electrical installations. The Electrical Safety Authority gets its enforcement authority through the Electricity Act and related regulations, including the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.

The Electrical Safety Authority also:

  • responds to fatalities, injuries and fire losses associated with electricity
  • promotes the safe use of electricity
  • increases public awareness of the dangers of electricity and the requirements for ensuring safe electrical applications and use
  • increases public awareness of the requirement to have all electrical work inspected in accordance with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.

The Electrical Safety Authority will inspect FIT and microFIT project installations and verify their nameplate capacity.
